DETAILED DAY-WISE ITINERARY
Your Himalayan adventure begins at Bagdogra Airport (IXB) or NJP Station, where a dedicated Sarva Enroute representative will receive you. The journey to Gangtok is a scenic 4.5 to 5-hour drive that winds alongside the turquoise Teesta River, offering glimpses of lush forests and terraced farms. Upon reaching Gangtok (5,500 ft), check into your hotel and take some time to acclimatize.
In the evening, head out for a stroll at MG Marg. This is not just a street; it’s a litter-free, smoke-free pedestrian zone that reflects the modern yet traditional soul of Sikkim. You can explore local boutiques, enjoy Sikkimese delicacies like 'Phagshapa', or simply sit on the benches and soak in the vibrant mountain atmosphere.
- Stay: Gangtok.
Day two is dedicated to the high-altitude wonders of East Sikkim. We start early for Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake situated at 12,400 ft. Known for its changing colors with the seasons, the lake remains frozen during winter and reflects the surrounding snow peaks in summer. It is considered sacred by the locals, and a yak ride along its banks is a must-try experience.
Continuing further, we visit the New Baba Mandir, a shrine built in honor of Captain "Baba" Harbhajan Singh, the "Hero of Nathula." His legend as a guardian of the border makes this a deeply spiritual site for both soldiers and tourists. If permits allow, you can also opt for an extension to Nathula Pass, the historic Indo-China border (at an extra cost), where you can stand inches away from the international boundary.
After the high-altitude thrills, Day 3 focuses on the cultural and natural gems of Gangtok. Our first stop is the Rumtek Monastery, the largest in Sikkim and a world-renowned center for Tibetan Buddhist teachings. The intricate murals and rare artifacts here provide a deep dive into the region's spiritual heritage.
Next, we head to the Ban Jhakri Falls & Energy Park, a 100ft waterfall surrounded by lush gardens and sculptures depicting Shamanic culture. The afternoon is spent at Tashi View Point and Ganesh Tok, which offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including the mighty Mt. Kanchenjunga. These spots are perfect for photography and witnessing the vastness of the valley below.
- Stay: Gangtok.
Bid farewell to Gangtok as we drive toward West Sikkim to the scenic town of Pelling. This 4.5-hour drive is filled with views of orange orchards and deep valleys. Pelling is famous for being the closest you can get to the Kanchenjunga range without trekking.
The highlight of the day is the Pelling Skywalk, India’s first glass skywalk. Walking on the transparent glass with a massive valley beneath your feet leads you to the magnificent 137ft Chenrezig Statue. Later, we explore the Rabdentse Ruins, the 17th-century second capital of the former Kingdom of Sikkim. Walking through these ruins gives a "Machu Picchu" vibe, with stone structures overlooking the dense forest.
- Stay: Pelling.
Before leaving Pelling, we visit the serene Rimbi Waterfalls and the sacred Khecheopalri Lake. Also known as the "Wish Fulfilling Lake," it holds immense religious significance. An interesting legend says that birds in the area pick up every leaf that falls on the water, keeping the lake perpetually clean.
Leaving the tranquility of West Sikkim, we cross the Teesta River and enter the rolling hills of West Bengal. As you approach Darjeeling (6,700 ft), the landscape transforms into endless slopes of emerald-green tea gardens. In the evening, visit Chowrasta (The Mall), the social heart of Darjeeling, perfect for a horse ride or a cup of the world’s finest tea.
- Stay: Darjeeling.
The day begins at 4:00 AM with a drive to Tiger Hill. Standing at 8,482 ft, you will witness one of the most beautiful sunrises in the world as the first rays of light turn the snow-clad peaks of Mt. Kanchenjunga into molten gold. On a clear day, even Mt. Everest is visible in the distance.
On the way back, we stop at the Batasia Loop, a magnificent engineering feat of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, and the historic Ghoom Monastery. After breakfast, visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) and the Padmaja Naidu Zoo, where you can spot rare species like the Red Panda and the Snow Leopard. We conclude the day with a visit to a Tea Garden, walking through the manicured slopes that produce the "Champagne of Teas."
- Stay: Darjeeling.
Enjoy your final breakfast with a view of the mountains. Our driver will then take you on a 3-hour journey back to Bagdogra Airport (IXB) or NJP Station. As you descend from the hills, you carry back memories of the "Land of the Sacred Lake" and the "Queen of the Hills." Your 7 Days Sikkim Darjeeling Tour with Sarva Enroute concludes here.
